Home Sleep Testing
(HST/HSAT)

  • HSTs are used to diagnose sleep apnea and other sleep-disordered breathing conditions

  • Performed in the comfort and convenience of your home; no need to spend the night in a clinic

  • We provide several different HST technologies, and the physician selects the one that he/she believes is best for each patient’s situation

A Home Sleep Test is a small, portable medical device that is set up and used in your home to diagnose sleep-disordered breathing.

HSTs are comfortable to sleep with, are convenient for the patient and their family, and typically cost less out of pocket compared to an in-lab sleep study (PSG).

We can ship it to you or you can pick it up, and we provide instructional videos that demonstrate how to prepare for and set up your sleep test. Written instructions are also provided on how to complete the study.

Some frequently asked questions about Home Sleep Testing

  • Yes, since an HST is a medical test, by law it requires an order or prescription from a physician. And, to be covered by insurance, a prescription is required.

  • A home sleep test can diagnose obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, sleep-related hypoxemia (low oxygen levels), and snoring.

  • Most devices measure similar physiological signals including: heart rate, oxygen saturation, body position, sleep stages (Awake, light, deep, and REM sleep), actigraphy (movement), chest motion respiratory effort, and airflow.

  • Each completed sleep study undergoes a stringent triple review. First machine scoring, then a technologist reviews and scores respiratory events, and finally, it is reviewed by the sleep physician.

  • Most people find that the HST is extremely comfortable to wear and easy to use and doesn't interfere with their falling asleep or staying asleep.
